The Joint Commission Accreditation Survey

The Joint Commission (TJC) conducted its three-year reaccreditation survey of Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) from March 7-10, 2023. A team of five TJC surveyors—consisting of three registered nurses, one physician, and one life safety engineer—visited NWH’s main campus and offsite locations for the unannounced, four-day survey. The surveyors’ objectives were to:

  • Validate NWH’s compliance with standards
  • Provide a meaningful assessment of risks
  • Inspire and encourage improvement through engagement and dialogue
  • Partner with us on our journey toward becoming a high-reliability organization

During their evaluation, the survey team identified areas of improvement that we have been working diligently to address, including:

  • Infection Control—standardizing processes and consistently adhering to hospital policies and manufacturers’ recommendations
  • Suicide Prevention—ensuring the highest level of safety for patients at risk for suicide
  • Physical environment—optimizing our procedures and processes for maintenance to support the safest physical environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.

Partnering with TJC offers Newton-Wellesley support, recommendations, and best practices that help us to continue to improve our ability to provide the safest, highest-quality care to our patients and their families. We remain steadfast on our journey to become a high-reliability organization focused on zero harm and deeply appreciative of our patients’ choice of NWH.
