Coverages and perks for our employees
We offer a number of benefits options to employees of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. To qualify for benefits, you must be regularly scheduled to work a minimum of 16 hours per week. Benefits are prorated for part-time employees.
Medical Coverage
Mass General Brigham Health Plan
Prescription Drug Coverage
When you enroll in one of our medical plans, you will receive prescription drug coverage through CVS/Caremark. CVS/Caremark prescription drug coverage offers both retail and mail-order drug coverage for a co-payment based on drug designation:
- Generic
- Preferred brand
- Non-preferred brand
Dental Coverage
You may select coverage from two Delta Dental plans: Basic and Major. We offer two levels of coverage: Individual and Family.
Vision
We provide vision coverage through each of our health insurance plans.
Earned Time
You will accrue earned time (ET) during your time as one of our employees. You may use this time for:
- Holidays
- Sick leave
- Vacation
- Personal days
ET is based on years of service and scheduled hours. ET accrues over the course of a year, with new full-time employees earning 33 days annually. We observe 10 core holidays, which are paid out of the ET bank.
Disability
You may voluntarily enroll for short-term and long-term disability coverage.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
You may establish an FSA to reimburse health care and/or dependent care expenses. Your FSA contributions are subject to yearly maximums, and you make those contributions on a pre-tax basis.
Retirement
We offer a 403(b) plan, which allows you to voluntarily save on a pre-tax basis for retirement. As an employee, you may voluntarily contribute to the plan. We will provide an employer contribution based on specific eligibility criteria.
Life Insurance
We cover the cost of basic term life insurance. We offer optional term life insurance and whole-life insurance on a voluntary basis.
Long Term Care Insurance
We offer long-term care insurance to nonbargaining employees. This benefit can pay for nursing home care, assisted living, and/or home health care for you or a number of people, including your:
- Spouse
- Parents (and parents-in-law)
- Grandparents (and grandparents-in-law)
MBTA Corporate Pass Program
We partially subsidize MBTA passes, up to federal and state limits, for all employees who meet the eligibility criteria and choose to participate.
Tuition Reimbursement
After six months of service, you are eligible for 100 percent of tuition reimbursement up to $2,000 per year if you work 24 hours or more per week. We prorate reimbursement amounts for part-time employees.
Work/Life Resources
We offer a wide variety of resources to help you maintain a healthy balance. Our Employee Assistance Program helps employees meet the challenges of balancing work and family. Our Life Balance program, which we offer to employees who participate in the short-term disability program, offers 24-hour access to professional advice and face-to-face visits if needed to help you and your family address daily challenges of life, such as:
- Workplace stress
- Parenting issues
- Education challenges
- Aging difficulties
- Financial and legal questions
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The EAP offers help with work/life problems that can affect job performance. This program can help you deal with any situation you feel is becoming a problem. EAP counselors offer a number of services, such as:
- Assessment
- Brief counseling
- Referrals to providers

Hyatt Legal Plan
The Hyatt Comprehensive Group Legal Services Plan offers you, your spouse, and your dependents with access to legal services at a low weekly fee, which is paid through a convenient automatic deduction from your paychecks. You can use a participating plan attorney for a number of covered services, such as:
- Court appearances
- Debt collection defense
- Document review and preparation
- Family matters
- Real estate matters
- Wills
When you use a participating plan attorney for covered services, there are no:
- Claim forms
- Co-payments
- Deductibles
- Waiting periods
You can get assistance from a plan attorney through consultations on the phone and in person.
Scholarship
Each year, the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Auxiliary, Inc. makes funds available to support a scholarship aid program for the dependent children of our employees. Applicants must be accepted in a course of study that leads to an undergraduate degree. Award amounts for the upcoming academic year depend on the number of people who apply and whom the committee selects. Scholarship recipients are selected based on:
- Financial need
- Activities
- Scholastic achievement
Metropolitan Credit Union
Metropolitan Credit Union offers the Metro@work workplace banking program, which includes privileges for members and a convenient way to use Metro’s products and services. They offer:
- Several checking account plans
- Regular savings accounts
- Christmas and vacation club accounts
- Consumer loans
- Mortgages
- And other services
Employees Activities Committee (EAC)
The EAC, also known as the 52 Club, offers discounts on a variety of activities, trips, and functions. It also provides services and products to all employees, such as:
- Movie passes
- Gift cards
- Newton-Wellesley Hospital clothes and items
- Weekly cash drawing for all members
There is a fee of $1 per week to be a member of the EAC. The committee also hosts annual family events, such as the Summer Outing at Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire.
Shipley Fitness Center
The Shipley Fitness Center is for the use of hospital employees, medical staff members, office staff members, and their families. The Fitness Center features top-of-the-line cardio- and strength-training equipment. The Center offers a variety of classes in the Yoga Studio, and it offers locker rooms, showers, a steam shower, and personal training at reasonable rates.
