Surgical Oncology Procedures
Our surgical oncologists are experts with a wide range of procedures:
- Needle biopsy – removal of a small sample of suspicious tissue for examination by a pathologist
- Open biopsy – removal of tissue through an incision for examination by a pathologist
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy – removal and examination of lymph nodes to determine the stage of cancer
- Lumpectomy – a breast-conserving surgery that involves removal of a suspected cancerous tumor or lump in the breast
- Mastectomy – most or all breast tissue is removed to treat breast cancer
- Removal of tumors and surrounding tissue for treatment of other cancers
