For Schools
Student Support Team
Each high school in our catchment area has access to a student support team comprised of a child/adolescent psychiatrist and social worker from Newton-Wellesley Hospital. These trained professionals participate in high school site visits at least twice each academic year, during which time they meet with select school personnel, including principals, guidance counselors, teachers, special education teachers, behavioral specialists and other key staff, to provide consultation and discuss site-specific and student-specific concerns.
In-Service Sessions
At least once each academic year, The Resilience Project can provide in-service professional development programming on relevant youth mental health issues for school faculty and staff. Programming could include but are not limited to lectures, small-group trainings and consultations on specific school programs.
Annual Education Summit
Every school year, The Resilience Project hosts a professional development conference for school personnel and community partners to learn from leading experts in the fields of mental health, education, and child and adolescent development and collaborate with colleagues about specific school innovations, best practices and future directions. Continuing Education credits are offered for some professions and are announced at the time of registration.
For Parents
Parent and Caregiver Workshop
We offer seven-week long skills-based workshops for parents throughout the year. The workshops provide education on normative child development and different ways parents can foster the parent-child relationship and support resilience-building in their kids and teens.
“Raising Resilient Kids” is designed for parents and caregivers of school-aged children (grades K-5/6), while “Raising Resilient Teens” is designed for parents and caregivers of tweens and teens. The total cost of the 7-week workshop is $160 and covers up to 2 parents/caregivers per household. If a parent/caregiver in another household would like to participate, they will need to register and pay separately; they will be mailed their own set of resources and materials. Email NWHResilienceproject@partners.org with any questions.

Partnership with PTOs
At least once each academic year, through partnership with each high school’s PTO, The Resilience Project can provide educational sessions for students and/or parents customized around each school’s needs and interests. Programming could include, but is not limited to educational talks, Q&A and skill-building sessions.
Parents Program
The Parents Program centers on weekly educational and skill-building sessions in a small group setting. These sessions will provide a deeper and more personalized resource on many of the same topics we address in the larger PTO talks. The Program will be open to all parents in our community and will run throughout the academic year. In addition, we plan to organize periodic special events (e.g., films, book readings, special speakers) each year related to parenting, youth mental health issues and emotional well-being that are open to both parents and families.
For Children and Adolescents
Access to Care
Families in need who live in the NWH primary service area (Natick, Needham, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley and Weston) have access to the NWH Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic for any child/adolescent mental health concerns. Families and schools who are concerned about a child or adolescent can start the referral process by calling 617-243-6328. One of our social workers will be available for consultation over the phone within 1 business day.
