Our endocrine surgeons have extensive experience in all aspects of endocrine care, including assessing thyroid nodules and performing thyroid biopsies and thyroid surgeries. They are highly skilled in the evaluation and management of more complex thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions, such as familial, recurrent or multi-gland diseases, including thyroid cancer and hyperparathyroidism.

Virtual Visits

The Endocrine Surgery Program remains open and ready to provide the care you need for a thyroid, parathyroid or adrenal surgical issue. Our team is available to provide consultation and treatment through virtual visits, and we have ensured all of the necessary precautions for urgent in-person visits. For a virtual visit, the only equipment you will need is an iPad or home computer. If neither is available, visits can also be conducted over the telephone.

Endocrine Surgeons

Dr. Sareh Parangi, Chair of Surgery at Newton Wellesley Hospital, focuses her clinical efforts on endocrine surgery and applies her basic science knowledge and expertise to tumor progression in thyroid cancer. Read Dr. Parangi’s bio

Dr. Antonia Stephen focuses on the surgical management of patients with endocrine tumors. Her particular areas of clinical expertise are in minimally-invasive parathyroid surgery, the treatment of thyroid cancer, and laparoscopic adrenal surgery. Dr. Rajshri Gartland is a board-certified, fellowship-trained thyroid and parathyroid surgeon, and has additional expertise in innovative techniques such as thyroid radiofrequency ablation. She serves as surgical director of the NWH Thyroid Biopsy Clinic and directs the MGH Minimally Invasive Thyroid Therapeutics Program.

Thyroid Biopsy Clinic

Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s weekly, multidisciplinary Thyroid Biopsy Clinic brings together endocrinologists, thyroid surgeons, cytologists, and radiologists in one location. The clinic is intended to provide up-to-date, streamlined care to patients, along with dedicated evaluation and fine-need aspiration for thyroid nodules requiring biopsy.


Patients may be referred if they have:

  • Thyroid nodule(s) on ultrasound imaging that are larger than 1cm in greatest diameter
  • Thyroid nodule with suspicious features on imaging
  • Symptomatic thyroid nodule

Requirements for a visit:

  • TSH blood test performed within the last 3 years
  • Thyroid ultrasound within the past 6 months, report and images are required, prior to scheduling a biopsy appointment

Meghan Mancini, MS, PA-C is a certified Physician Assistant specializing in Endocrine Surgery. She is the Lead Advanced Practice Provider for the Newton Wellesley Hospital Thyroid Biopsy Clinic. Her areas of interest include management of thyroid nodules and parathyroid disease.

She received her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Northeastern University. She is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Massachusetts Association of Physician Assistants.
