The Pain Management Service at Newton-Wellesley Hospital cares for people with many types of pain, including:
- Acute pain (pain that comes on suddenly and is caused by a specific injury, surgery, or condition)
- Chronic pain (pain that lasts a long time and may result from one or more injuries or illnesses)
- Cancer-related pain, which we treat alongside colleagues from Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley
We treat patients with many different types of pain, including but not limited to:
- Arthritis
- Acute and chronic back and neck pain
- Cancer-related pain
- Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), sometimes called reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD)

- Abdominal pain
- Coccydynia (pain in the tailbone)
- Endometriosis
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Pudendal neuralgia (a rare problem with the nerve that runs through the pelvic region)
- Rectal pain
- Vulvodynia (pain affecting the vulvar region)
- Fibromyalgia
- Headache/facial pain
- Nerve (neuropathic) pain
- Post-surgical pain
- Peripheral joint pain
- Sacroiliac joint pain
- Shingles pain
Please note: While we do not take over prescribing opioid pain medications from other providers, we are pleased to advise your clinician in safe and appropriate prescribing practices. We also can advise doctors on effective non-opioid treatments.
