Collaborative specialty treatment for infertility

Our center brings world-renowned expertise in reproductive medicine to patients in the communities we serve. We understand that trying to conceive a child can be difficult or frustrating for couples who are dealing with infertility. We’ll provide the personal care and support you need and help you choose the treatment that’s right for you.

Advanced infertility treatments

Researchers have made tremendous progress in fertility care in recent years. The majority of couples who seek professional medical help for infertility are able to become pregnant.

Most couples achieve pregnancy through relatively simple approaches, though some require more advanced techniques. Our doctors offer a wide range of treatment options to help couples conceive a child. Learn more about our infertility treatments. We also offer educational programs to help you prepare for the use of advanced reproductive technologies, such as:

  • Injectable medications
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)

World-class fertility specialists

Our doctors are affiliated with Massachusetts General’s Vincent Infertility and Endocrinology Service and Brigham and Women’s Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery, two of the most respected infertility treatment centers in the country. Our physicians are board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and they are faculty members of Harvard Medical School.

Nursing Center of Excellence

We’ve been recognized as a Nursing Center of Excellence by the Executive Board of the Nurses Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. We are the first center in Massachusetts to receive this recognition.

Billing and insurance

Our skilled staff members will help you navigate requirements and authorizations from your insurance company as part of your infertility care. Learn more about billing and insurance coverage.

Billing and Insurance Coverage

Our clinic coordinator and patient accounts specialists will help you deal with your insurance carrier regarding coverage for your infertility treatment. We’ll get pre-authorization from your insurer for the initial consultation with your fertility specialist. We’ll also seek approval from your insurance carrier before you undergo fertility treatment. You will be responsible for getting a referral from your primary care doctor if it’s required by your insurer.

We’ll bill the initial fee for consultation and reproductive services directly to your insurance company from Newton-Wellesley Hospital. If you need assisted reproductive treatments from our colleagues at either Massachusetts General Hospital or Brigham and Women’s Hospital through the Mass General Brigham Center for Reproductive Medicine, the hospital where you receive treatment will bill your insurance company for those treatments.

If your insurance doesn’t cover fertility treatment, we accept all major credit cards and personal checks.

Glossary of Terms

Assisted Hatching – Using very fine tools under a microscope, a small opening is created in the shell of the fertilized egg in the laboratory to assist in embryo implantation.

Donor Egg Program – For women unable to produce their own eggs, eggs may be donated by another woman after ovarian hyperstimulation and used during an IVF cycle.

Donor Semen Program – Sperm may be obtained from a donor bank and inseminated at the time of ovulation.

Embryo Cryopreservation –  Embryos from one cycle may be frozen, stored and successfully thawed for use in another cycle.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) – Using very fine tools under a microscope in the laboratory, a single sperm is injected into a single egg to aid in fertilization.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) – After ovarian hyperstimulation, eggs are removed from the ovaries with a needle through the vagina and mixed with sperm in the laboratory where fertilization occurs.  Several days later, the embryos are transferred through the cervix into the uterus.

Semen Cryopreservation – Sperm may be successfully frozen and thawed for use at a future date.
